Self Publishing is not for Sissies!

February 23, 2013

Now I know why publishers and agents make all the money.  They do all the work self-publishers have to do.  Where is my staff of editors, ghost writers, layout and proofreaders when I need them?

We are learning rendering intents, color conversions, print house compatibilities along with our tedious text formatting and layout.  I wish there were two of me… I could do a much better job.  I’ve assembled 582 photos (none of which has yet been converted to 300 dpi or from RGB to CMYK).   I’ve squirreled away all sorts of separate text which somehow has to come together cohesively.  What I actually need is a librarian to catalog and file all this stuff.   Metadata has been entered, which helps, but it’s a lotta stuff to manage. I figure if I’m any good at this and can get one book completed, my over-preparation and over-abundance of material will carry me through book two and maybe even book three without breaking a sweat!

Oh, and don’t forget I’m still learning how to blog.  Check this out.

Here are my quotes for this week:

On gratitude:

“We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.”

On creating the book:

  • “When was the last time you did something for the first time?”
  • “You don’t have to have it all figured out to move forward.”
